With the widespread use of surface-mount technology SMD components, storing small electronic components in an organized way and using them practically has become important. Finding the component we are looking for can take a lot of time. There were SMD notebooks for SMD resistor, capacitor, diode, etc. strips, and they are quite useful.
All SMD storage tools have 3D .stl files prepared using the OpenSCAD program.
There are three different 3D printable SMD organizer projects designed for SMD strips, passive components, and reel tapes. The projects offer functional and customizable solutions aimed at increasing work efficiency in workshop and laboratory environments.
SMD Component Strip Holder
Contents

This project is designed to store cut or short-piece SMD component strips in an organized way and to provide easy access during work.
It especially prevents clutter on the desk during prototype development, repair, and soldering operations.
SMD components in strip form, such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, and similar components, usually cannot be stored properly after they are cut from their packages.
This holder helps prevent the strips from bending while preserving component values and preventing mix-ups.
SMD Resistor and Capacitor Tray

This project is a storage tray with 12 × 4 compartments, designed to store small SMD components in an organized way. It is suitable for resistors, capacitors, and similar passive SMD components.
Thanks to the tray structure, components with different values can be kept in separate compartments. This both prevents value mix-ups and allows quick access to the correct component during assembly. It provides significant convenience especially in prototyping and small-batch production.
- Organized storage area with 12 × 4 compartments
- Dimensions optimized for small SMD components
- Ergonomic structure suitable for desktop use
- 3D-printable design that requires no support
This tray is a functional solution for hobby users and professionals who want to keep SMD component stocks under control.
Customizable SMD Reel Storage Box

This project is a customizable storage box designed for the safe and organized storage of cut SMD component tape reels. The design includes a bayonet lock mechanism that provides secure closing and a special entry slot for easy placement of the tapes.
The OpenSCAD source file of the project is fully parametric. This allows the box dimensions to be easily adjusted according to different reel widths and thicknesses.
Customizable Dimensions: Preset dimensions (40 mm, 50 mm, 60 mm base lengths; different tape widths and thicknesses) or fully custom parameters
Bayonet Lock System: Secure, practical, and adjustable locking mechanism (number of locking pins, rotation direction, etc.)
Label Slot: Integrated label area for writing content information
Rounded Corners: More aesthetic appearance and smooth printing
Usage Steps
Opening the File: Open the reel_holder.scad file with OpenSCAD.
Size Selection: Activate the preset size you want (for example, box40_8_20) or define custom dimensions with the box_size = “custom” option.
Optional Customization: Adjust parameters such as wall thickness, tolerance clearance, and lock settings.
Printing Recommendations
- Material: PLA (recommended), PETG, or ABS
- Layer Height: 0.2 mm
- Infill: 20–30%
- Support: Not required
Assembly: The box (smd_reel_box) and cap (smd_reel_cap) are printed separately. The SMD tape reel is placed into the box. The cap is rotated by aligning the bayonet pins (default direction: counterclockwise).
Notes: All dimensions are in millimeters. Optional fixing or stacking holes are located at the corners.
Before printing, make sure that the reel dimensions have been selected correctly. The source file contains detailed comments and is suitable for editing.
