Evaluating a Faulty DVD ROM

Evaluating a Faulty DVD ROM

For hobbyists and DIY users, computer parts have always been a great source of components, and DVD and CD ROM reader/writer devices are no exception. Their motors, mechanics, electronic parts, etc. can be used in many projects. In the reader head and laser section, there are also two lesser-known useful parts.

Useful Parts Inside a Faulty DVD ROM

As you can see in the video, there are 2 neodymium magnets under the metal protection in the lens section. In some models, as shown in the pictures, the magnet poles are marked.

When you remove the protective metal under the lens, a small lens will appear. You can also use this as a mini magnifier; it may be useful in reflector, etc. projects, or if you can mount it on a phone camera, it can be used as a macro shooting tool.
